History of the Grove
This unique property is located at the heart of Great Malvern on a tree-lined avenue with views to the hills.
The house was built in 1867 in the Victorian Gothic Revival style and the design is attributed to E. W. Elmslie, more famously the architect for Great Malvern Railway Station and the Malvern Girls College.
Elmslie designed and built the house for himself but never lived there, he sold it to Dr Weir and moved to London to build churches.
The Wier family added the concert hall and lived in the property until it was sold to be part of Lawnside girls School in 1927.
Both Elgar and Shaw performed in the concert hall during the time it belonged to Lawnside.
The school closed in July 1994 and was boarded up. In December 1995 Phil Price broke in and "squatted" the property, to protect it from potential intruders, while waiting for the completion of his purchase on September 1st 1996.
September 1st happens to be Julia's birthday. Julia Palmer came to the house for Nigel Kennedy's Millennium party and never left.
Together they have continued to host a diversity of events including their marriage and the birth of their two children, Aletea and Harry.
